Overview
Division of Indian Work's mission is to support and strengthen urban American Indian people through culturally-based education, traditional healing approaches, and leadership development. This is achieved by focusing on community and delivering programs and services directly or in partnership with other organizations. Our vision is American Indian communities that build upon inherent strengths and create safe, healthy, and nurturing environments in which everyone thrives.
DIW has remained steadfast with our goals, including honoring our Native culture, educating youth, developing leaders, strengthening families and providing basic needs. We will continue to provide these services for our beneficiaries including American Indian youth, adults, families and elders in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota areas with the dedicated and generous support from our many friends, volunteers, partners and donors.

OUR PROGRAMS

Youth
DIW's Youth Leadership Development Program (YLPD) encourages well-rounded success by providing youth with a wide variety of learning opportunities and academic support, including after-school tutoring, cultural enrichment, and educational, recreational, environmental and artistic activities.

Families
DIW has a number of programs for families that provide a variety of services such as case management, in-home parenting support, education, groups, and more.

Domestic Violence & Anger Management
DIW’s Domestic Violence & Anger Management programming provides services for victims of domestic violence and support groups for anger management.

Elders
DIW’s elders programming provides a variety of services for the elders in our community including social connections, food, transportation, a Widow’s Group, and a program for grandparents as caregivers.

Health
DIW's Health Services operates a culturally specific food shelf, provides services for pregnant moms, works on teen pregnancy prevention, and provides traditional healthy foods for DIW’s program participants.

Foster Care Based Services
DIW provides services for youth in long-term foster care including education, assistance, and housing.

Referral Programs
DIW works with Hennepin County, Ramsey County, and other agencies to connect with and recruit clients for some of our programming. Some programming does require participants to be referred to the programs first.

DIW provides a variety of physical resources year round, along with special giveaways throughout the year.
